It takes a great deal of time and effort to properly develop a garden - cultivating the dirt, regular watering, and pulling weeds. However, a gardener spends the least amount of time doing what is perhaps the most important task: selecting and planting the right seed.
In John 13:34-35, Jesus gave His disciples a "new commandment, that you love one another." His people, He said, would be known by their love. The depth of this kind of love doesn't grow naturally from the heart. If we want love to grow in our life, we need a better seed.
God provided His written word to remind us of His work in the world and in us. Remind yourself every day of God's work in you, cultivating the Fruit of the Spirit through a fresh meeting with Jesus and through reading the Bible.
Sincere love involves selfless giving; a self-centered person can't truly love. God's love and forgiveness free you to take your eyes off yourself and to meet the needs of others. By sacrificing His life, Christ demonstrated that he truly loves you. Now you're able to love others by following His example and giving of yourself sacrificially.
Have a blessed and happy holiday season!
