Devotion of Prayer

"Devote yourselves" carries with it the idea of dedication. Of the ten times it's used in the New Testament, four of them have to do with being devoted to prayer. It's a very powerful word and in this case is given as an imperative, or a command. In other words, persistence in prayer is not an option for the Christian, it's an order from the Lord Himself. Two of the most instructive parables Jesus ever told on prayer, one in Luke 11 and the other in Luke 18, both have to do with being persistent and not giving up in prayer. Jesus doesn't want us to give up in prayer. He teaches us that we shouldn't grow weary in our prayer life and instructs us to "always" be persistent. Always means "keep on!" God has a reason why He's delaying and allowing. God wants our faith and hope to grow, not cease! So, don't give up!

Blessings!
